International Programme Jamaica (JIMP UK) in partnership with DEIMP
“Achievement through Excellence”
The JIMP pilot project has been designed to meet the needs of students in Jamaica who are transitioning from secondary to further education. Whilst in the UK, it will meet the needs of young professionals within the Diaspora. Our aim is to offer an exceptional service that will develop youth potential and enhance educational and employment performance.
Our programme will be situated in a rural school, allocated with 1 dedicated mentor, to support mentees across an entire 5th form, for the duration of one academic year. The project aims to target students preparing to sit their CSEC examinations [GCSE equivalent] and to help them in selecting their CAPE options [A-Level Equivalent] at 6th form. This support will 1) Improve student performance 2) develop self-confidence 3) provide qualification requirement and career advice.
This will be situated in London and resourced by mentors from a range of business and entrepreneurial professions. The delivery team will also include senior mentors and counsellors who will manage sensitive matters, disclosures or concerns escalated by the mentors. We will offer mentees support with soft skills (i.e. workplace etiquette, communication skills, time management etc.), technical skills (pertaining to the role such as work experience) and personal guidance towards their chosen profession.
